Backup Exec Licensing

Am I the only person who thinks the licensing scheme of Backup Exec is insane.

Why must there be so many options which become increasingly expensive for features that should just be included, and why exactly must we pay for enhancements which are often essentially fixes for features they never implemented properly the first time.

Grrrrrrrrr

at least you've gotten it to work. I'm still trying to get CPS to even show up. This is the most miserable experience I've been through since Ishtar.

I do feel your pain believe me! I spend far too much time managing this software!

We are still running BackUpExec10. Company purchased 12, well they purchased the server and some agents, and then said next year for the rest, that was two years ago. So now we are waiting for OSSV licenses so we can use the NetApp and get away from our 2002 PV-136T Library and 1999 XioTech SAN, and the blasted Dell PV220s Disk array. Still sit in BackupExec Hell to this day. We hope this is the last year, but I doubt it. Your blog keeps me going!

I feel quite sorry for your David - sounds like a nightmare.

I hate those PowerVault Libraries - utterly unreliable!

This is now my new favorite site. I thought I was the only one blogging about Symantec and the crappy nature of it's software.

Hello

I am a member of Symantec's Backup Exec Engineering team. I would like to contact you directly to talk about the different issues you are facing with Backup Exec. As well give us input for things you would like to see in future versions of the product. If this is something you are open too, please email me at Symc.BE.ENG@gmail.com and we can exchange contact information.

Thanks,
Derek
